A Word from the Mayor

July 15, 2026

Hello All,

I am thankful to be serving the citizens of the City of Vance for another 4 years as mayor.  In 2026 I started my 30th year of municipal service to the city.  Our city has come a long way in my 30 years of service, and we have worked hard to overcome hardships and move forward. I have a wonderful council that works hard to represent the citizens of our city.

I would like to give you an update on some of our projects that have been completed and some we are still working towards:

Chevron Service Station: The owners of the incomplete Chevron Service Station sold the land and building to a developer. My understanding is it will be an Exxon Station upon completion.

Highway 11 Expansion Project-I am happy to report that all 4 lanes are open now! The city is in negotiations with Alabama Power and ALDOT about some of the lighting and signs that need to be put back in place.  They were removed during construction of the highway.

Sidewalk Grant-The new sidewalks are complete on Tingle Tangle Road.  The lights at night help folks to walk and enjoy the evening. It’s a safe walk to our park now.

Caffee Place Subdivision-Phase 1 has been completed at Caffee Place. The second phase has begun, and the homes are selling as soon as they are being built out. Once this subdivision is built out there will be 200 homes. Twenty-five percent (25%) will be R1s (up to 15,000 square feet) and 75% will be R3s (up to 9,500 square feet).

Events-We have a wonderful Hostess Committee lead by Councilmember Ginger Turner. She and her staff do an excellent job with our events. We normally have a Spring Fling around April, a fall event in October, Christmas Tree lighting in early December, Breakfast with Santa the 1st Saturday in December and fireworks and snacks on New Year’s Eve. We have up to 50 vendors at our Spring Fling and October event plus food trucks. We have activities for the kids at no charge. All events are listed on our Facebook page “What’s Happening in the City of Vance.” These events are for everyone, not just the city! Please check it out and bring the kids!

Price Subdivision-This subdivision will begin construction in the near future and will have 65 homes upon completion. Twenty-five percent (25%) will be R1s (up to 15,000 square feet) and 75% will be R3s (up to 9,500 square feet).

B&S Restaurant-Mr. Hugo’s restaurant has been open for a while.  It has delicious steaks, burgers, shrimp and a variety of good food on the menu. Check it out! You won’t be disappointed!

Firehouse Road-The council voted to install a road behind the fire department to make access easier for the fire fighters when they have a call out.  This project has been completed.

Flyover Bridge for Mercedes-The flyover bridge to move vehicles from the Mercedes plant to the Marshalling Yard has been completed and will take 60% of the trucks off of Tingle Tangle Road.

Sprint Mart/Sadie’s Diner-Our Sprint Mart and Sadie’s Diner has been a wonderful success in Vance.  Sadie’s Diner can serve you whatever you want to eat. They serve breakfast all day.  Sprint Mart has the best coffee around and has a hot bar to choose from if you don’t have time to sit down at the diner.  Check it out! You won’t be disappointed!!

Tingle Tangle Park- We have a 1.2-million-dollar park that has 4 ballfields, a new 3 lane lighted batting cage plus a walking track for your use. We rent the fields on the weekend for travel ball tournaments. Please contact our city hall at (205) 553-8278, if you are interested in renting.

Activity Center-We have an activity center that we rent out for events. Please contact city at (205) 553-8278, if you are interested in renting.

Vance Library-We have a library in our old cotton gin building. The building is over 100 years old.  Our volunteer ladies do a wonderful job with activities at the library. A book club has been started and they meet every 3rd Tuesday at 7pm. On Tuesdays 9am-11am, they have a Moms Day In and give the parents a break while they work with the children. The library’s regular hours are Thursday 2pm-4pm and Saturday 9am-11am. A trading post is held there every 2nd Saturday of the month (March-October only) 9am-2pm.

Tingle Tangle Road Repairs-Recently we have had repairs done to Tingle Tangle Road.  We are very thankful to the Tuscaloosa County Commission for partnering with us on this.

Redlights-We have worked for years trying to get redlights in Vance! We finally have them at the intersection of Vance Blocton Road and Highway 11 and at Vance Elementary School. The Highway 11 expansion required these redlights because of the danger of crossing lanes. Also, the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) placed a red light at the intersection of M-Class Blvd and Highway 11.

Future Commercial Growth-I have been working diligently with developers to bring in positive growth for the City, citizens and community. As we grow with rooftops our opportunities will increase for commercial growth.

Please come and visit us and enjoy our park, city and restaurants! We are rich in history concerning the Battle of Trion, which was fought within our city limits.

Sincerely,

Mayor Brenda Morrison
